Surinam Airways is the flag carrier of Suriname and is wholly owned by the Goverment of Suriname.
Surinam Airways flies to many destinations including Aruba, Belem, Willemstad, Cayenne, Georgetown, Amsterdam, Paramaribo, Port of Spain and Miami. Surinam Airways has its hub airport at Johan Adolf Pengel International Airport in Suriname.

The airline was established in 1953 to link small towns, and now operates regional and long-haul scheduled passenger services. Surinam Airways currently seeks cooperation agreement with Turkish Airlines.
Surinam Airways ordered two Boeing 737-300 aircraft from AWAS to replace the McDonnell Douglas MD-82 in 2009. In November the same year, Surinam Airways retired the Boeing 747-300 from service.
The aircraft had been bought from KLM in 2004. It was replaced by the end of 2009 with a 317-seater Airbus A340 that previously belonged to Air France.
Surinam Airways offers an in-flight magazine named Sabaku.

Suriname Airways add extra seats to Guyana from Miami
Suriname Airways which put into service last December a 737-800 aircraft to service its Guyana route from Miami to accommodate the holiday demand, is keeping that aircraft on the route until the end of the Easter holidays.
Suriname Airways General Manager, North America, Henk Fitz-Jim announced Thursday that the airline will maintain the 737-800 aircraft on the Guyana service so as to accommodate the demand for travel for a number of events and activities scheduled for the first quarter of 2018. The 737-800 aircraft provides for 60 additional seats per flight compared to the 737-300.
He identified an international oil and gas conference, the country’s Mashramani celebrations and the Easter Holidays among the events for which there is an upsurge in the demand for travel to Guyana. “We have seen an increase in the demand for travel to Guyana during this period and will keep the 736-800 in operation so as to efficiently accommodate this demand.
“We are also aware that with Carnival being held in Trinidad and Tobago in February the availability of seats on other air carriers that serve Guyana via Trinidad becomes somewhat of a challenge. So with 60 additional seats three times per week Suriname Airways is well positioned to ensure the Guyana market is adequately served at this important period for the country,” Fitz-Jim said.
Suriname Airways currently flies from Miami to Guyana non-stop on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. Flights currently leave Guyana at 11 a.m. and arrive Miami at 3.30 p.m. (Miami time) then depart Miami at 5.00 p.m. arriving in Guyana at 10.30 p.m. (Guyana time).
Fitz-Jim disclosed that the airline, as part of its network planning for 2018 is looking into offering flights from New York to Guyana as well as adding an additional flight out of Miami to make a total of four non-stop flights weekly.
Fitz-Jim pointed out that the airline’s convenient departure time from Miami allows for passengers from other parts of the United States to connect with Suriname Airways without the need to overnight in Miami.
“We have also kept our fares competitive and affordable so that passengers that are connecting from other cities should not find the cost of travel a burden to their budgets,” he said. The airline also allows one free checked baggage as well as carry on hand luggage.
The general manager also pointed out that Suriname Airways enjoys a 95 percent on time departure rating “and our in-flight service is superb, offering a hot meal, an array of soft drinks, juices, coffee and tea and friendly and helpful flight attendants.”

Surinam Airways introduced a third weekly flight from Miami to Guyana
Surinam Airways announced the introduction of a third flight weekly to Georgetown, Guyana beginning May 12. The third flight will be on Thursday of each week, adding to the airline’s Tuesday and Saturday service which leaves Guyana at 11.30 a.m. arrives Miami at 4.00p.m. and leaves for Guyana at 5.30 p.m. arriving at 10.00 p.m. Surinam Airways will use its Boeing 737 300 series aircraft for this service offering 118 economy and eight (8) business class seats. The airline permits passengers one free piece of checked baggage not exceeding 50 pounds and charges $15 for a second piece of luggage.

Surinam Airways announced it was studying possible replacements for its current narrowbody fleet of three B737-300s
Surinam Airways leases its three B737s from AWAS and uses them on regular flights to Aruba, Belém, Cayenne, Curacao, Georgetown Cheddi Jagan, Miami Int'l, and Port of Spain.
In 2004, Surinam Airways was bought from KLM and they provided a 317-seater Airbus A340 that previously belonged to Air France. Aside from transatlantic services, Surinam Airways also serves Aruba, Belém, Cayenne, Curacao, Georgetown Cheddi Jagan, Miami Int'l, Orlando Sanford, and Port of Spain using a trio of B737-300s.

Surinam airways announced it was expanding its service to Florida by adding two flights to Orlando from Aruba
Surinam Airways announced that it is expanding its destinations in Florida with two weekly flights to Orlando’s second International Airport, SFB. In addition to Orlando, Surinam Airways will continue with their popular flights to Miami, alternating the flying days creating more favorable accessibility to Florida. With this move, Surinam Airways will be operating 4 Nonstop flights to Florida per week as well as 4 Nonstop flights to Paramaribo, increasing the airlift to and from Aruba which is beneficial to both the tourism sector as well as the local market.
Starting April 3, 2017, the new route will operate an early afternoon flight on Mondays from AUA to SFB departing at 1:00 PM and returning on Tuesdays afternoon with a departure time of 4:30PM. Starting July 3, 2017 a second weekly flight on Fridays will depart AUA at 11:00 AM, returning the same afternoon with the departure scheduled out of SFB for 4:30PM. Flights will be operated using the 119-seat Boeing 737-300 aircraft. Flying time is a mere 3.5 hours, and as customary with their Miami flights, US Customs and Immigrations will be cleared in Aruba. This allows for passengers to debark as a domestic flight upon arrival ensuring that they reach their vacation destination even faster.

Surinam Airways announced it was had almost finalised the decision on the fleet renewal replacing the Boeing 737-300s with the Embraer E-Series. On the mid-Atlantic route, the Dreamliner 787 or the Boeing 777 will replace the existing Airbus 340. The alternative plan is to upgrade to the Boeing 737-700. The airline upgrade to more modern aircraft would improve its product and allow for future expansion. The newer Boeing 737-800 or Airbus 321 with a range to NYC and Toronto, which would give SLM the opportunity to expand its network to those cities at any time.
