About Shanghai Airlines

Shanghai Airlines is a Chinese airline, headquartered in Shanghai, China, and wholly owned subsidiary of China Eastern Airlines. Shanghai Airlines currently has two hubs in Shanghai, based in Shanghai Pudong International Airport and Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport. Shanghai Airlines flies to many destinations including Beijing, Busan, Cebu, Bangkok, Denpasar, Da Nang, Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Hong Kong, Male, Macau, Osaka, Phnom Penh, Shanghai, Taipei, Tokyo, Zhanjiang and many others. Shanghai Airlines also has codeshare agreements with China United Airlines, Korean AirSichuan Airlines. Shanghai Airlines (as of March 2016) have a total fleet of 82 aircraft with a further 5 on order.

 


Shanghai Airlines Fleet

Aircraft currently vary between Airbus, Boeing and Comac aircraft. Airbus aircraft used are A330-200 and 300 series. Boeing aircraft accumulate to over 92% of the fleet used by Shanghai Airlines, including Boeing's 737-700 and 800 series, and 767-300 and 300ER series.

The baggage allowances of Shanghai Airlines are the same as China Eastern Airlines, because of being a wholly owned subsidiary of the company.

Carry-on Baggage

Passengers travelling in First class are permitted 2 pieces of carry-on luggage, each weighing a maximum of 10kg. Passengers travelling in Business or Economy class are permitted 1 piece of carry-on luggage, weighing a maximum of 10kg. For domestic flights, the size of bags must not exceed 55 x 40 x 20cm. For international or regional flights, the size of bags must not exceed 56 x 45 x 25cm.

Checked Baggage

For flying from destinations in the US, First or Business class are permitted 2 bags, weighing a maximum of 32kg each. Passengers travelling in Economy class are permitted 2 bags, weighing a maximum of 23kg each. The size of the bags must not exceed 158cm in dimensions, regardless of the class flying.

For flights in Europe, Australia, Japan, Korea, Dubai, Singapore and Bangkok, passengers travelling in First class are permitted 3 bags, weighing a maximum of 32kg each. Passengers travelling in Business or W/Class class are permitted 2 bags, weighing a maximum of 32kg each. Passengers travelling in Economy class are permitted 2 bags, weighing a maximum of 23kg each. The size of the bags must not exceed 158cm in dimensions, regardless of the class flying. For Domestic Flights, passengers travelling in First class are permitted 40kg of checked luggage. Passengers travelling in Business class are permitted 30kg of luggage. Passengers travelling in Economy class are permitted 20kg of luggage.

Shanghai Airlines online check in is available from 24 hours before departing, up to 90 minutes before scheduled departure time. In order to check-in online please visit the airlines' website.

Airport Check-In

If passengers choose to check-in at the airport, they must do so between 150 to 45 minutes before scheduled departure time.

In 2018, Shanghai Airlines took delivery of their first Boeing 787-9 aircraft which will feature 285 seats including four first class seats and 26 business class seats. The Business Class seats are equipped with doors and personal in-flight entertainment systems.

Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport is the main domestic airport serving Shanghai, with limited international flights. Hongqiao International Airport is a hub for China Eastern Airlines, Shanghai Airlines, Juneyao Airlines and Spring Airlines. The airport has two runways and has a passenger capacity of nearly 40 million per annum. Shanghai Airlines receives first Boeing 787-9 aircraft

Shanghai Airlines, based at Shanghai Pudong International Airport (PVG), has acquired its first ever Boeing 787-9 aircraft to add to its fleet. This aircraft is the first of three that are on order.The airline's new B787-9s will replace its B767 aircrafts.

Shanghai Airlines to benefit from Hahn Air's global distribution services

Shanghai Airlines announced that it has activated HR-169 ticketing. The flights of the subsidiary of China Eastern Airways can now be issued by 100,000 travel agencies in 190 markets on Hahn Air’s HR-169 document via the standard GDS ticketing process. Shanghai Airlines is based at the Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport (SHA), China. The subsidiary of China Eastern Airways operates flights to several destinations in Asia such as Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Macau, Taipei and Thailand. Among the airports serviced are Hong Kong (HKG), Tokyo (HND), Kansai (KIX), Incheon (ICN), Gimpo (GMP), Gimhae (PUS), Macau (MFM), Songshan (TSA) and Suvarnabhumi (BKK). Shanghai Airlines’ fleet consists of more than 70 aircraft of the type Airbus A330 and Boeing 737

Shanghai Airlines expanded a practice to broadcast greetings in the Shanghai dialect to 10 flights

The welcome announcements can be heard on flights returning to Shanghai from Taiwan, Macau, Hong Kong, Kunming in southwest Yunnan Province, Haikou and Sanya on south Hainan Island, Guilin and Nanning in south China’s Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region as well as Shenzhen and Guangzhou in south Guangdong Province from this month, said Jin Yun, Party secretary of the cabin service department with the airline.

Passengers can hear a pre-recorded male or female voice speaking in the local dialect after take-off and before landing. Safety introductions remain in English and Mandarin.

 

June 2017

New Shanghai Airline plans for fleet

In June 2017, China Eastern Airlines announced Shanghai Airlines' fleet plans. China Eastern Airlines stated (07-Jun-2017) Shanghai Airlines’ fleet will expand to up to 200 aircraft in the future, comprising mainly of Boeing 737s, similar to China Eastern. China Eastern will transfer 10 787-9 to Shanghai Airlines, becoming the carrier’s flagship fleet model. After the 787-9s join Shanghai Airlines’ fleet, it will allow the carrier to apply to operate to second tier long haul international destinations from Shanghai. These destinations will complement China Eastern’s network.

Shanghai Airlines announce merge with China Eastern Airlines

In 2009, Shanghai Airlines agreed to merge with China Eastern Airlines. As a result of the merger, Shanghai Airlines announced it was to join China Eastern Airlines in the SkyTeam alliance as an affiliate. SkyTeam alliance has grown to become the second largest alliance or the three major airline alliances, the first two being Star Alliance and Oneworld. SkyTeam has two premium levels, Elite and Elite Plus offering benefits such as; Priority reservations waitlisting, priority airport standby, priority boarding, priority check-in and much more.
