About Red Wings Airlines

Red Wings Airlines is a Russian airline providing both scheduled passenger and cargo charter services. Red Wings Airlines is based in Vnukovo Airport in Moscow, Russia. The airline was founded in 1999 under the name VARZ-400, after the Russian acronym of the Vnukovo Avia Repair Factory. In 2001, the airline was renamed Airlines 400, before rebranding to its current name in 2007.

Red Wings Airlines has a codeshare agreement with another Russian airline, Nordavia. The codeshare agreement was created when the owner of Red Wings Airlines Sergey Kuznetsov purchased Nordavia. The original plan was to merge Red Wings Airlines and Nordavia into one airline that would operate each of the airlines' routes under a new brand name and identity. However, it was later decided that the merger would not go ahead as plan and Red Wings' Airlines would maintain its brand and identity and that a codeshare agreement was to be signed between the two airlines. In addition to this, Nordavia is set to rebrand as SmartAvia, although, this rebranding is still in process.

The Red Wings Airlines fleet is constantly adapting and changing but currently includes four Airbus A320-200s, eight Airbus A321-200s. It also has six Airbus A220-300s and 16 Irkut MC-21-300s on order. All of which are to be delivered throughout 2019.

The maximum weight for hand luggage for Base Rate and Light tariffs is 10kg. The item should not exceed 55cm x 40cm x 20cm. For Standard tariffs, the bag must not exceed 5kg weight or 55cm x 40cm x 20cm dimensions. 

Checked Baggage

The maximum weight for check luggage for Base Rate and Light tariffs is 23kg, the sum of the height, width and depth of the item must not exceed 203cm. Tariff Light customers are not permitted any checked baggage.

Online Check-In

Web check-in begins 24 hours before the flight departure and ends one hour prior. Boarding passes should be printed by the passenger. Red Wings Airlines to fly regular service between Moscow and Baghdad

Red Wings Airlines recently announced that it has been given permission from air authorities to commence regularly scheduled flights on a service between Russia and Baghdad. While the details of the new service are yet to be announced, Red Wings Airlines and the Iraqi Transport Ministry expect the new city pairing to increase tourism between Russia and Baghdad. This is Red Wings Airlines' first service to Baghdad. The Russian airline is expected to fly the between the two countries once a week initially, with the possibility of increasing the frequency of the flight if there's a demand.

Red Wings Airlines to fly service between Moscow and Belgrade

Red Wings Airlines are launching a new route will connect the capitals of Russia and Serbia. The airline will fly between Moscow Domodedovo Airport (DME) and Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport (BEG) three times a week, starting 12th June 2018. The Russian airline will carry passengers on the Airbus A320 aircraft and the route has an expected flight time of three hours.

Russia’s Red Wings to take five more Airbus А321s

Red Wings now operates four Airbus A320s and three bigger A321s (Red Wings). To fill the void in the leisure charter business created by the demise of VIM-Avia last year, Red Wings is to secure five more Airbus А321s from the second-hand market in April and May of this year, Evgeny Klyucharev, general director of the Russian scheduled and charter carrier, has told ATO.ru, Russian Aviation Insider’s sister publication. The Moscow, Domodedovo-based airline received its first western-built aircraft only 11 months ago, and now operates four Airbus A320s and three bigger A321s. The airline also has six Tupolev Tu-204 narrow bodies, aircraft from its original fleet, with two phased out when they exceeded their maximum designed service lifespan.

Red Wings, a renowned advocate of Russian-built aircraft, has repeatedly emphasised that the adoption of the Airbus A320 family is merely a transitional move ahead of the hoped-for 2019 arrival of its future workhorse, the MC-21, Russia’s next-generation narrow-body aircraft. In total, Red Wings has ordered 16 of the single-aisle twinjet airliners, which are being developed by the Yakovlev Design Bureau and produced by its parent Irkut, a division of Russia’s United Aircraft Corporation (UAC). Red Wings’ MC-21s are being leased from the Ilyushin Finance Co (IFC) leasing company, which also happens to be the airline’s new owner. “We certainly look forward to the MC-21, as our main mission is to operate Russian aircraft,” director general Klyucharev stresses. The carrier also leases its Tu-204s from IFC. In accordance with a previously signed protocol, some of the MC-21s will be powered by Russian-made engines.

With those developments to come, the airline says the favourable operating economics of the A321, and the doubling of the size of its fleet, are the two main reasons for the carrier’s profitability last year. At the same time, falling under the control of IFC has allowed part of its historical debt to be converted into capital. In accordance with its ambitious business plan, Red Wings expects to transport some 2.9 million passengers this year, a remarkable 80 percent increase on a year earlier, according to Klyucharev. In 2017 its passenger traffic grew by 75.5 percent, promoting the airline into 12th place in terms of passenger numbers in the biggest Russian airlines league. In another development, commenting on Red Wings’ proposed merger with 17th-ranked Russian airline Nordavia, in a move announced in October 2017, the Red Wings representative states: “The two companies are working together in the alliance. We even have a single joint office, but the formal issue of merging requires deeper study. We continue to explore the ins and outs of this association.”

Red Wings and Nordavia, which operates nine Boeing 737-500s, have been cooperating for some time, sharing their route networks, fleets, and distribution channels. The stakeholders in both Russian carriers – Red Wings (owned by lessor Ilyushin Finance Co, via its subsidiary Airline Asset Management) and Nordavia (owned by investment company Sky Invest) – declared their decision to merge their assets into a single aviation holding structure last October. The parties are anticipating that the aim of the merger is to consolidate business and improve the carriers’ joint financial stability, which would allow for substantial fleet modernisation, the development of a synergistic route network, and an overall increase in operational efficiencies, thereby creating a new ‘power player’, one to break into the top 10 of the country’s airlines.

Russian carrier Red Wings to launch operations in Armenia

The General Department of Civil Aviation of Armenia granted Red Wings, a Russian private airline, permission to operate regular roundtrip flights from Moscow (Domodedovo) to Yerevan. As the government-affiliated agency reported in a released statement, the flights will be launched on March 18, 2018. The carrier will conduct three flights per week until April 3 and seven flights per week after that period. To note, Red Wings was founded in 1999 under the name VARZ-400, after the Russian acronym of the Vnukovo Avia Repair Factory. It was renamed Airlines 400 in 2001, before adopting its current name in 2007.

Russia revokes Red Wings Airlines permit for flights to Azerbaijan

The Federal Air Transport Agency of Russia, also known as Rosaviatsiya, revoked the permission of the Red Wings Airlines for flights from Kazan, Samara, Voronezh and Ufa to Azerbaijan. This is stated in the protocol of the interdepartmental commission when admitting carriers to international transportation, obtained by Trend. The document states that the permission was revoked due to Red Wings Airlines’ decision. Red Wings Airlines is a Russian company based in Domodedovo Airport, Moscow. Until 2007, the company was called Airlines 400. Currently, the company does not operate flights to Azerbaijan.

Russia's Red Wings adds maiden A320s

Red Wings Airlines (WZ, Moscow Vnukovo) has begun adding A320-200 capacity to its fleet, Skyliner Aviation has reported. Of the four twinjets to be added, VP-BWZ (msn 2084) was positioned to Moscow Domodedovo this week with VP-BWY (msn 2193) to follow in due course. The remaining two ships - msn 2372 and 2393 - will likely arrive later this summer.
As previously reported, one of the aircraft will be based out of Adler/Sochi for use in serving Chelyabinsk, Moscow Domodedovo, Nizhniy Novgorod, Ivanovo, Samara Kurumoch, Murmansk, Omsk, Ufa, and Voronezh Chertovitskoye. It will also be used to run Murmansk-Anapa services as well as flights to Simferopol from each of Moscow Domodedovo, Cheboksary, Nizhnekamsk, Belgorod, and Ivanovo. A second aircraft of the type will operate Moscow Domodedovo-Orenburg (hub for Orenair) daily as well as a weekly charter flight to Rimini from Moscow Domodedovo. The flights will operate as a codeshare with sister carrier Nordavia/SmartAvia. Red Wings also operates two A321-200s, ten Tu-204-100s, and one Tu-214.

Russia’s Red Wings Airlines to launch flights to Azerbaijan

Russia’s Red Wings Airlines has obtained the permission to carry out flights to Azerbaijan, says a protocol posted on the website of Russia’s Federal Air Transport Agency (Rosaviatsia). According to the protocol, Red Wings Airlines obtained the permission to carry out flights on the routes Voronezh-Baku, Krasnoyarsk-Baku and Ufa-Baku twice a week each. In 2015, the airport handled 15.82 million passengers, representing an increase of 24% compared to the previous year. It is the third-busiest airport in Russia.
