Jetstar, Parent company of Jetstar Japan temporarily rearrange their Asia schedule due to Mt Agung explosion
Jetstar has done an amazing job when faced with a massive environmental obstacle this week. Bali's Mt Agung has been spewing out ash in a series of volcanic activities. As a result of this, Denpasar airport has been closed. Unfortunately, a handle of Jetstar flights has had to be cancelled. The airline initially scrapped flights to the tourist hotspot from Melbourne, Perth and Brisbane on Friday morning, while its flights leaving Bali - bound for the three capital cities and Cairns - were also cancelled. Now though, Jetstar have managed to turn it around, stating that they hope to get passengers on their way from as early as this evening. Well done Jetstar!

Qantas' Jetstar Japan partner considers launching its own budget airline
Qantas Airways' partner on its low-fare Japanese airline Jetstar Japan is considering starting its own low-cost carrier (LCC), raising the prospects of it one day becoming a rival to Qantas in the country's growing budget market. Japan Airlines, or JAL, and Qantas set up Jetstar Japan six years ago, and were trailblazers in bringing the budget airline model to Japan, a country where bullet trains offer a compelling alternative to flying. Each of these big names in air travel own 33% of the company but JAL is now looking at starting a new, wholly-owned budget airline to compete better as Japan catches up with the rest of the world by embracing low-cost air travel. Currently, Jetstar airlines is the largest LCC in the country, with over 100 flights a day to 12 domestic and 4 international destinations. JAL's new airline would be focused on longer services to Europe and North America - outside the range of Jetstar Japan's current fleet - possibly by the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

Jetstar Japan seen as 'Huge Opportunity' for Jetstar
Jetstar Group CEO Gareth Evans, speaking on CAPA TV, stated (02-Mar-2018) the company sees "a huge opportunity" in terms of the potential for Jetstar Japan. Mr Evans commented: "There's 166 million people in Japan and still very low penetration from a low cost perspective. We're building that business together with our partner over time. We've got a good domestic franchise. We've got a short haul international franchise, as well. There's a strong market growth between Australia and Japan, so we've seen Qantas grow between Australia and Japan, as well. Again, we will grow where the market demand exists, but we can see huge possibilities for the future of that business".

Jetstar Japan announced it was targeting business fliers with flexible fares
Budget airline Jetstar Japan on Wednesday launched a new fare option to make flying more convenient for business travelers, aiming to broaden its customer base. The so-called Flexibiz bundle costs an additional 2,000 yen ($17.84) each way for domestic flights and 3,000 yen for international flights. Customers who buy the add-on can switch to a different flight on the same day in case of sudden changes to travel plans. A passenger looking to fly on a different date can cancel the reservation and receive a voucher worth the price of the original ticket. Before Flexibiz, customers on Jetstar's cheapest fare plan had no way to switch flights or get refunds for cancelled tickets. Like other budget airlines, Jetstar -- whose major shareholders include Australia's Qantas Group -- has fare options that allow ticket changes, but these require passengers to pay additional fees or cover the difference between the original price and the new fare.
