About Air Italy
Air Italy, previously Meridiana, is an Italian airline that operates scheduled passenger services. Air Italy is a merger of Meridiana and the previous, Air Italy and operates flights across Europe, Africa, the Indian Ocean and the Caribbean. Air Italy's hub airport is at Milan Malpensa Airport which is also the hub for airlines such as Cargolux Italia and Fly Ernest.
The merger to create Air Italy was completed in early 2018 and along with the old Meridiana routes, Air Italy added new domestic routes from Milan to Rome, Naples, Palermo, Catania, Lamezia Terme scheduled for connection to its long-range destinations including New York, Miami and Bangkok.
Air Italy's route network will also includes direct international flights from Milan Malpensa to Accra, Cairo, Dakar, Havana, Lagos, Mombasa, Moscow, Zanzibar and, from its Olbia Costa Smeralda hub, as well as year-round scheduled services to Rome, Milan Linate and seasonal ones to a wide range of domestic and regional destinations.
Air Italy Fleet
Air Italy's fleet currently consists of a mix of Boeing and Airbus aircraft. The airline currently has over 15 aircraft including models such as the A330-200, Boeing 737-700, 737-800, 737 MA 8 and 767-300ER. However, Air Italy is currently in the process of phasing out its Airbus aircraft with the arrival of an influx of Boeing 787-8 aircraft. Air Italy is expected to have around 50 aicraft within its fleet by the end of 2019.

Carry-on Baggage
Air Italy passengers are allowed one item of carry-on baggage and one personal item, included in the price of their ticket.
The carry-on baggage can weigh no more than 8kg and must fit within the dimensions of 55 cm x 40 cm x 20 cm.
The personal item must fit within the dimensions of 40 cm x 30 cm x 15cm. Personal items can be objects such as a small rucksack, handbag or laptop.
Checked Baggage
All checked baggage on Air Italy flights must fit within the dimensions of 158 cm (height x length x width).

Passengers flying Economy Light on Air Italy domestic flights are not given any free baggage. They must purchase checked baggage if they wish to fly with it.

Air Italy fly to India
Air Italy has started taking bookings on a number of new routes from Milan Malpensa (MXP) to India. The first is a direct service from Milan Malpensa to Delhi (DEL), which Air Italy will operate five times a week. The Italian airline will use the Airbus A330-200 to carry passengers on this flight. The new service will begin flying on 28th October 2018 and is expected to take 7 hours and 30 minutes.
The second new direct service that Air Italy will fly is a route between Milan Malpensa and Mumbai (BOM). This will also fly five times a week and use its fleet of Airbus A330-200s to operate the flight. This service will launch on 30th October 2018 and is expected to take 8 hours.

Qatar Airways uses Air Italy to expand presence in the US
You can already book Qatar Airways flights to serveral US destinations. There's a lot of ternsion between the airline and its american competitors, such as United, and American Airlines. Now, however, it appears Qatar has found a new, more subtle way to expand its presence in the United States and around the world via its 49 percent stake in upstart Air Italy. Air Italy is a new airline set to compete with Alitalia. All of the new aircraft in Air Italy’s fleet will be used to grow the carrier’s route network, which will include flights from Milan, Italy to New York City and Miami.

Air Italy paves the way for Europe's national airline branding
Is national pride behind the rebrand of Air Italy? The sardinian airline, formally Meridiana, changed its name earlier this year to reflect the country it represents. Well, what's in a name? Does national pride is still appeal to the aviation industry? In Air Italy's case, it seems so. The airline and its minority shareholder, Qatar Airways, sensed an opportunity to fill the 'flag carrier' brand gap expected to open up upon the probably ceasinf of Alitalia. Alitalia has continued to operate in administration for longer than originally expected, but that does not change the point that a national brand is still perceived to have value in Italy.
The Italian airline isn't the only one to go down this path in Europe. Air Belgium is a new long haul operator planning to launch from Brussels Charleroi, while other nationally branded start-ups include Air Albania, Blue Slovakia, FlyBosnia, Air Andorra and Italian Airways (founded by a former Meridiana/Air Italy CEO).

Qatar Airways and Air Italy announce codeshare
Qatar Airways has entered into a new codeshare agreement with Air Italy, starting April 24. The new agreement provides codeshares on Air Italy’s routes between Milan-Malpensa Airport and six domestic cities across Italy, including Catania (CTA), Rome (FCO), Naples (NAP), Olbia (OLB), Palermo (PMO) and Calabria (SUF). The agreement also consists of Air Italy’s route between Rome Fiumicino Airport and Olbia Costa Smeralda Airport (OLB).
Qatar Airways first began flying to Italy in 2002 with a service from Doha to Milan. A year later, the airline launched direct service to Rome. In 2011, the airline started operating to Venice, and in 2016, Qatar Airways started a daily service to Pisa.
Since adding its fourth Italian destination, Qatar Airways has been operating 42 weekly flights from its home and hub in Doha, Hamad International Airport, to Italy. From April 24, Air Italy will also offer codeshare flights on all of Qatar Airways’ Italy to Doha services along with two further routes on the Qatar Airways network to Singapore and Male.
Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive Officer, Akbar Al Baker, said: “We are pleased to be announcing this codeshare with the newly-launched Air Italy. The new agreement will provide seamless connectivity for Qatar Airways passengers arriving at our Italian gateways, onto further domestic destinations, enabling them to explore this beautiful country.
This codeshare between Qatar Airways and Air Italy demonstrates the strengthening ties between Italy and Qatar; two countries that share many economic affiliations.”
In 2017, Qatar Airways acquired 49 per cent of AQA Holding, the new parent company of Air Italy. Italy’s long established privately owned airline was previously known as Meridiana, however, in February this year, the airline announced a new phase of growth and development, starting with its brand new identity and livery as Air Italy. The new airline aims to acquire 50 aircraft by 2022, and has already committed to receiving 20 brand new Boeing 737-Max aircraft type, starting this month.
Qatar Airways Cargo currently offers global customers belly-hold cargo capacity to and from the Italian cities of Milan, Rome, Venice and Pisa. The cargo carrier also operates five Boeing 777 freighters and two Airbus A330 freighters each week to the fashion capital, Milan, taking its combined cargo capacity to Italy to more than 1,100 tonnes each week.
Additionally, the twice weekly Boeing 777 freighter service on the Milan-Chicago-Milan route affirms Qatar’s rising position in the USA and Europe, providing high quality and reliable airfreight service between two key trading partners with 200 tonnes of weekly cargo capacity each way.

AIR ITALY launches!
Italian leisure carrier Meridiana has been officially relaunched as Air Italy, less than two weeks after the new name was announced. The name Air Italy was already within the airline’s portfolio of brands, as the title of a charter operator that Sardinia-based Meridiana acquired in 2011. The former Air Italy was incorporated into Meridiana and acted as a capacity provider for the latter company. However, Air Italy has now become the name for the entire group.

AIR ITALY set to take on Alitalia
Rebranded Italian airline Meridiana hopes to operate a fleet of 50 aircraft and carry 10 million passengers by 2022 after relaunching as Air Italy with the backing of Gulf carrier Qatar. The move is a direct challenge to troubled Italian flag carrier Alitalia as it continues to struggle through bankruptcy proceedings. Alitalia entered special administration last year after Qatar rival and 49 percent shareholder Etihad withdrew its support and the Italian government has indicated there will be no resolution before elections on March 4. Qatar has taken a 49 percent stake in the new parent company of Air Italy with the previous sole shareholder, Alisarda, holding the other 51 percent.

AIR ITALY is Europe's newest airline!
The rebrand of Meridiana to Air Italy is set to supply passengers cheaper flights from the U.S. to Italy as soon as this summer. The Italian airline Meridiana is no more. Starting today, the carrier that’s probably best known for its flights to The Italian Islands, such as Sardinia, is now called Air Italy. As part of the rebrand, its planes will get a fresh new look with teal-and-purple graphic elements on the tail and clean, all-caps type on the side of planes.
If that shade of purple looks familiar, it’s probably because you’ve seen it on Qatar Airways jets. The Gulf airline now owns 49 percent of Air Italy and has been instrumental in revamping Meridiana. It's heavily invested in the airlines to the modest prediction of millions of dollars, as well as providing some planes for the fleet: Air Italy will acquire at least 20 new jets over the next three years, the airline says, plus at least five wide-body jets from the Qatar Airways fleet. That’s important because Air Italy has big ambitions to become a major rival to Alitalia.
“Air Italy has an ambition to reach a goal of transporting 10 million passengers per year by 2022 traveling to, from, and via Italy,” Meridiana Chairman Francesco Violante said in a statement. “We expect more than 8 million of these to use Milan Malpensa airport.” Air Italy plans to start flying from Milan to both Miami and New York by this June. They’ll also add additional flights from Milan to Catania, Naples, Palermo, and Rome—plus the small Calabrian town of Lamezia Terme—this year, making the carrier a convenient alternative to train travel within Italy. While Air Italy hasn’t announced any details on cabin amenities, ticket prices will be “affordable,” Qatar Airways Group CEO Akbar Al Baker said in a statement.
