Ghana's Africa World Airlines eyes E190s in 2018
Africa World Airlines (AW, Accra) is planning to add EMB-190 equipment to its fleet during the course of 2018. Speaking to gh-aviation, the Ghanaian carrier's Head of Commercial, Richard Kyereh, said a pair of the Embraer Regional Jets would supplement its existing fleet of six ERJ-145LIs. Previously announced plans to add A319-100 capacity are still valid he added without specifying timeframes.
An affiliate of HNA Group's Hainan Airlines (HU, Haikou), Africa World Airlines offers scheduled passenger flights to Kumasi, Takoradi, and Tamale in Ghana as well as Abuja and Lagos in Nigeria, and Monrovia Roberts in Liberia.
AWA has been linked to Ghana's ongoing national carrier project. Earlier this month, Minister of Aviation Cecelia Dapaah said the carrier was one of three operators currently in in-depth talks with government over the proposed new airline. Other contenders include Air Mauritius (MK, Mauritius), with which Dappah signed a partnership agreement earlier this year, and the ever ubiquitous Ethiopian Airlines (ET, Addis Ababa).

Africa World Airline extends flight to Monrovia route - Accra - Monrovia flight service this December
The airline will be providing a thrice-weekly service from Kotoka International Airport in Accra to Monrovia Liberia on Tuesdays, Fridays, and Sundays.
Speaking to Joy Business the Head of Commercial for Africa World Air Richard Kyereh said the new route is part of the Airlines expansion targets having joined the International Air Travel Association.
He said, “Our immediate work will be to mop up traffic within the continent as we grow”.
According to officials of the Airline, that Accra-Monrovia-Accra flights will depart Kotoka International Airport at 11:30hrs on Tuesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays and arrive in Monrovia at 13:30hrs. The return flight will depart Monrovia at 14:10hrs and arrive in Accra at 16:10hrs.
The maiden flight for the Accra - Monrovia route will start on December 12, 2017.

Africa World Airlines supports Loopers
Travelling agency, Africa World Airlines, has donated tickets to three players of the national table tennis team, the Black Loopers, to ensure their participation in the Lagos International Open slated for Lagos, Nigeria, from today, August 9 to August 13.
The airline presented three tickets to Beatrice Gyasi of the Ghana Police, and the Ghana Immigration Service duo of Felix Lartey and Emmanuel Commey at a short ceremony in Accra yesterday.
Making the presentation, the Chief Operating Officer of the agency, Samuel Thompson, pledged that the agency would continue to offer valuable support to the Loopers as its Corporate Social Responsibility.
According to him, the gesture is to support the least financed disciplines in the country to help sustain the sport which was once a national pastime in the country.
The President of the Ghana Table Tennis Association (GTTA), Mawuko Afadzinu, thanked Africa World Airlines and noted that the support could not have come at an opportune time when the sport was witnessing some resurgence under his tenure.
He gave an assurance that his outfit would ensure that the players gave their best during the competition.
The only female player in the team, Beatrice, expressed her excitement about the honour done them, and added that the gesture would help facilitate the trip.
She pledged that she and her colleagues would do their best for the country.

Africa World Airlines (AWA) Monday June 26, 2017 flew its maiden flight from Accra to Abuja; a journey its management described as an important milestone in the achievement of its goal of connecting West Africa.
Speaking to journalists on arrival at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja, Captain Kwesi Oteng, one of the pilots who flew the aircraft said owing to their reliability, unmatched safety standards they are able to expand their network flying into Lagos five times a day from three times a week.
He said a similar plan is being put in place for the Abuja operation but at the moment it is going to be daily.
AWA, he said is planning to expand its route even further, saying it is testament of the vision of their founder “to provide affordable, reliable and safe travel for all within the sub region.
On his part, Ghana’s deputy Minister of Aviation, Kwabena Okyere Darko indicated government’s readiness to make the country’s aviation sector competitive, stating that it would make the country an attractive aviation hub within the sub-region.
The move, according to him, is part of the manifesto of the ruling government to ensure and sustain free movements of people and goods in the Western African Coast thus it is very important that “we partner airports, we partner civil aviation organizations, and we partner governments across the sub region to be able to provide these services across the ECOWAS subcontinent.”
“We want to make it clear to you that Ghana is prepared to collaborate with all airlines in Nigeria to also allow them to participate in our domestic market,” he stated when he unveiled AWA’s inaugural flight to Abuja.
“So we are using this opportunity to invite you to invest, whilst you are investing in Nigeria as a big brother come also to invest in Ghana,” he added.
Speaking on behalf of the Nigerian Aviation Minister, the acting Director of Air Transport Management for Nigeria’s Transport Ministry Greggory Taiwo said the move by AWA will help strengthen economic ties between Ghana and Nigeria.
AWA’s Accra-Abuja route operates a flight daily throughout the week.
